Time to build in this project was not extensive as it did not require self made objects. In this project I used Lego pieces from the bonsai tree set that I adapted into little towers for the animation. For the build I made 2 sets of 3 pillar designs, this way it had a simple yet versatile design that could have a lot of moving details to it.
Time to animate was an extensive process that ended up taking around 2 hours, more or less. This time was spent arranging the set with the camera arm and camera settings. It took some time to set the white balance correctly and get the camera angle perfectly to display the objects correctly.
Problems encountered were mainly with my own over ambition and difficulties trying to initially record with my phone camera. Trying to time the animation to the soundwave of a looping song sample was far more complex that I had to opt out for a simpler animation that allowed a bit more fun creatively. Additionally I could not configure my phone to turn off auto focus, neither be able to see the frame properly and take photos. It was just too much for just me and my phone to operate. So I decided to save the animation for another day and shoot with the camera again.
Aha moment came when I started to let go of my original plan and start to just have fun with the Lego pieces and making them dance around. Because they click together so easily and can move around a little, it made secondary action quite simple to execute. It made the process more enjoyable overall.
If I animated this again I would have liked to make the towers a bit more complex and work a bit more to make the lighting more applicable to the scene. Otherwise I don't believe I would change anything else in the means of execution, but I am glad I kept some of it more simple and expressive.
