In the short stop motion animations Meat! and Walker feature foods as the subject and their personification in a haunting almost horror way.
Meat! shows a woman going to eat some raw beef with a large kitchen knife being used like a regular table knife and an oversized fork. This plate of raw beef seems sentient and tries to run off the plate in avoidance of the woman. But before it can get away the woman stabs it with her knife.
Walker shows a balut as a duck like figure attempting to walk on a rotating wooden board. However it is extremely apparent that it is struggling extensively in its attempt to keep up with the 'moving' camera. It keeps stretching out its stride to match the camera's pace but ultimately fails and does not get back up, but it watches the camera as it returns back to center view and back out.
How is the principle of exaggeration being used in Meat!? Be specific and cite examples.
Exaggeration is used in many ways in Meat! specifically in the way the woman is portrayed. Her utensils are oversized, a fork the size of her hand, and a large kitchen knife instead of a table knife. But specifically the way she laughs at the meat when it tries to run away sliding off of her plate, her whole body jumps with her shoulders and head in the way she bobs as she laughs. This exaggeration helps with the visual characterization of the woman and her indifference to the beef moving as she stabs it in place being gazing upon the viewer.
Both films rely on contrast - identify at least one way that contrast is used in each film.
Meat! uses contrast in a subtle way to separate the figures (the woman and the plate of meat). They are both characterized to be alive yet they move in different ways. The beef slithers and scrunches like a sentient slime, whereas the woman moves in a much more angular fashion with quick articulate movements. This contrast serves to show that she is a hunter to this prey plate of meat.
Walker's use of contrast is more literal in a visual manner. The only organic and character like figures is the singular walking duck, it is surrounded by nothing and walks on a simple wooden plate that spins around. The duck figure is singular, soft, and gooey compared to the stiff wooden plate and black abyss of nothing.
